Athletics is the oldest organiced sport in the world.
The word 'athletics' comes from the Greek word 'atletes', which menas 'that person competing in a test determined by a prize'. This Greek word is related to the word atlethos that is synonymous with the word 'effort'.
Athletics is one of the few sports practiced worldwide, both among fans or in competitions of all levels. Simplicity and the few means necessary for it's practice explain this success. They standout the races:
- on foot (speed, average distance, bottom, races with fences, cross country, relays)
- the jumps (length, height, triple jump, pole vault)
- the throus (weight, javelin, hammer)
- athletic gait
- and combine tests
